Certification

Climate & Nature is certified through a third-party audited system that ensures that both cultivation measures and climate calculations meet clearly defined requirements.

The certification covers the entire chain – from implemented measures at farm level to calculation of verified climate benefits and is based on two separate but coherent standards developed by IP Sigill:

  • IP Sigill Växtodling, which certifies that the contracted measures are implemented in primary production on the farms that are affiliated with Climate & Nature.
  • IP Sigill Impact Calculation, which certifies that the climate and environmental impacts are calculated according to established methods, defined assumptions and verified baseline.

The standards are owned and developed by Sigill, while independent certification bodies carry out audits and issue the certificates. The certification bodies are in turn accredited by Swedac, which on behalf of the Swedish government reviews both the standards and the certification bodies' work.

What certification means in practice

The certification means that:

  • Implemented measures are controlled at farm level through independent audits
  • Calculations of climate benefits and biodiversity are based on verified data, defined methodology and established assumptions
  • Traceability and mass balance are monitored as an integral part of the system

In this way, it is ensured that Climate & Nature is based on actual emission reductions and implemented measures, not climate compensation or general assumptions.

Benefits of the certification

The certification provides several clear advantages:

  • Increased transparency and credibility
A common and third-party audited standard creates a high level of reliability in how climate and environmental impacts are reported.
  • Verified effect instead of claims
The certification ensures that communicated effects are based on verified measures and calculations.
  • Adapting to new EU requirements
The certification enables the communication of environmental and climate claims in line with the E.U. RegulatoryFramework, including the requirements of Directive 2024/825 Empowering the consumers for the green transition.
  • A common industry standard
Through open standards within IP Sigill, a common definition of sustainable crop production is created that can be used by more actors and scaled over time.
