The SBTi is a global framework that helps companies set science-based climate goals in line with the Paris Agreement's 1.5-degree goal, and for companies with significant emissions or purchases linked to agriculture and land use, this also includes the so-called FLAG goals.

Climate & Nature has been developed to address climate emissions in grain farming, an area that for many food companies constitutes a significant part of the climate impact in the value chain (Scope 3). Through the program, concrete measures are implemented in primary production that lead to documented emission reductions where they actually occur. This creates conditions for companies with Science Based Targets to work with emission reduction in agriculture as part of their climate goals.

Climate & Nature – A concrete tool for achieving climate goals

For companies that have committed to working according to Science Based Targets, Climate & Nature can serve as a practical tool to contribute to emission reductions at the agricultural level. When grain volumes are joined to the program, actual measures are financed that reduce climate impact and at the same time strengthen biodiversity, in line with the pace of transition required by SBTi.

Within the framework of the FLAG, the SBTi states that emissions from wheat cultivation need to be reduced by 36 percent between 2020 and 2030. Climate & Nature already meets this reduction level and is designed to continue to develop in line with the long-term transition towards climate neutrality by 2050.

Through the business areas Lantmännen Cerealia and Lantmännen Unibake, Lantmännen has committed to achieving Science Based Targets in their respective operations, where reduced emissions from raw material supply and agriculture are a central part. Climate & Nature is one of the most important tools for putting these commitments into practice.
