Minister for Rural Affairs inaugurates Lantmännen’s new grain facility – the largest of its kind since the 1980s

Lantmännen inaugurated its new grain facility in Uddevalla together with Minister for Rural Affairs Peter Kullgren. The investment amounts to approximately SEK 500 million and is the the largest industrial project of its kind since the 1980s. According to Lantmännen, the investment improves conditions for farmers in western Sweden, increases export opportunities and strengthens Sweden’s food preparedness.

The new grain facility is located adjacent to the Port of Uddevalla and will become an important hub for grain handling in western Sweden. With 21 silos, two dryers and a storage capacity of approximately 44,000 tonnes, the facility strengthens Lantmännen’s ability to receive, dry, store and load grain during the harvest season.

"This is an important investment for agriculture in western Sweden and for Swedish grain exports. It provides greater capacity, more efficient handling and better opportunities to meet both variations in the harvest and demand in export markets," says Lars-Gunnar Edh, Head of Lantmännen’s Agriculture Sector.

The port location also improves export conditions and strengthens the region’s role in Sweden’s grain infrastructure. Overall, the investment contributes to farmers’ competitiveness and Sweden’s long-term food preparedness.

"This investment sends a clear signal about Swedish agriculture with confidence in the future and the capacity to invest for the long term. When we strengthen capacity from farm to port, we create better conditions across the entire grain value chain, increase Sweden’s export opportunities and build a more robust food supply," says Jan-Erik Hansson, Chairman of Lantmännen.
