Lantmännen in Dagens industri: Sweden must choose both food and biodiversity
In the article, the organizations warn that the authorities’ proposal risks weakening Swedish food production at a time when it instead needs to be strengthened. Reduced production would mean fewer Swedish raw materials for the food industry, weaker preparedness and a weaker active agricultural sector – which in many cases is a prerequisite for biodiversity, for example through grazing animals and the management of the agricultural landscape.
The organizations emphasize that Sweden does not face a choice between food and the environment. If designed correctly, nature restoration can strengthen biodiversity without weakening agriculture, but the implementation must then be aligned with the food strategy’s goal of increased Swedish food production.
