Thermal treatment of seed - for reduced use of chemicals

Seeds can often be hit by different diseases. There are various methods used to combat this, but most include some form of chemical treatment. We have developed ThermoSeed®, an innovative, highly-effective, and environmentally-friendly seed treatment technology. The ThermoSeed® method is a thermic seed treatment based on steam pasteurisation. The method creates great added value for both seed producers and farmers, and not least biodiversity.

Plant breeding - for increased productivity and sustainability

There are great demands on agriculture in the future; it must be climate neutral, have minimal impact on the environment and at the same time provide good yields and quality. With plant breeding, we can produce varieties with new and improved properties.

At Lantmännen’s Farm of the Future Svälov, there is a ground-breaking facility for plant breeding where new technology opens up fast and precise plant breeding. Through the use of new tailor-made cultivation chambers and a wide range of methods in the laboratory, we are have unique conditions to develop plant varieties that meet the requirements and wishes for agriculture and food of the future.

Precision agriculture – to optimise the inputs in the field

Precision agriculture is about employing new technology to adapt seed, fertiliser and crop protection to the field the crop is grown in, in order to achieve the most uniform outcome possible. As no field is ever uniform, different parts are adapted to different crops and cultivation methods to achieve the best results.

The climate smart feed of the future

Lantmännen develops climate smart feed of the future. Through extensive investments in feed optimisation, we have succeeded in creating new feed concepts that reduce the climate burden by up to 30 per cent.

At our research facility, Farm of the Future Viken, trials are underway where we are combining our climate smart feed range with new technology, optimal management and other measures to achieve high productivity, good animal welfare and a reduced climate footprint.

Lantmännen’s mission is to contribute to the productivity, profitability and sustainability of farming. That is why we make large investments in research and innovation with arable land and farm needs in focus. Through these investments, we are constantly moving towards the Farming of the Future - farming where we work to increase food production, while at the same time reduce our climate impact.

Food Innovation & Health

We refine farmland crops into Good food – food that tastes good and also does good for the environment and our health. Through research and innovation on both established and new crops, and the simultaneous development of the processing line at the mill, bakery and our other food development facilities, we create attractive foods and ingredients from grain and legumes.

Bioenergy & Green materials

Beyond food, we also refine the output from arable land into bioenergy and new bio-based products and materials. One important part of this innovation area is our exploration on how to develop and repurpose sidestreams across the value chain. This focus on circularity is crucial; it increases the total value of the crops, it improves the resource efficiency of our production and it reduces our impact on the climate and environment.
