Proteins are important for bodily functions. Virtually everything that happens in our body cells is dependent on protein. Which is why it is important to choose proteins that supply the essential amino acids we need.
Proteins are made up of amino acids. We cannot produce all these amino acids ourselves and need to get some of them via our diet. These are called essential amino acids and are found in meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes and grains, for instance.
