Lantmännen’s biorefinery in Norrköping visited by party secretaries from Socialdemokraterna and Centerpartiet
Lantmännen’s biorefinery in Norrköping is an important part of Sweden’s agricultural and food value chain. The facility receives and processes Swedish grain and residual products from the food industry into products used in food, feed and bioenergy. The operations are important both regionally and nationally – as an employer, as part of the agricultural value chain, and as part of Sweden’s economy, preparedness and supply capability.
“In Norrköping, we operate a state-of-the-art facility with very high climate performance that is important for both agriculture and the region’s development. At the same time, we are part of a wider basic industry that is crucial to the economy, self-sufficiency and total defense,” says Alarik Sandrup, head of public affairs at Lantmännen.
According to Lantmännen, the operations in Norrköping show how Swedish raw materials can contribute to both sustainable food production and renewable raw materials for bioenergy.
“This is an industry that is important for Norrköping and the region, and very important for our country. At its core, a great deal of the material also comes from Swedish farmers, and that is something I would also like to highlight,” says Tobias Baudin, party secretary of Socialdemokraterna.
Lantmännen sees continued potential in operations that strengthen the entire value chain from field to fork. This is about creating value for Swedish farmers and contributing to the green transition through increased use of renewable raw materials.
“It is always inspiring to see what the green industries can create in terms of jobs and growth, but also contribute to the green transition, or upscaling, as I have now learned to call it,” says Hannes Hervieu, party secretary of Centerpartiet.
