Environmental award for Lantmännen in Eslöv

Press releases, 2016

Eslöv municipality and newspaper Skånska Dagbladet are awarding Lantmännen in Eslöv this year’s environmental award for the sustainable seed treatment method, ThermoSeed.

ThermoSeed is a technique for treating seed without using chemicals. In order to eliminate seed-borne fungi, the seed is treated with moist air and heat rather than chemicals. The method uses steam for treating the seed through a program with different temperatures. The patent was developed in Uppsala as a collaboration between Lantmännen, SLU and others.

The sustainable treatment method has now been recognized and Lantmännen is awarded this year’s environmental award from Eslöv’s municipality and Skånska Dagbladet. The award goes to a person, a company, an organization or an association that has distinguished itself in a positive way by working for a better environment.

The award ceremony will be held at Eslöv’s municipality’s business day, this Saturday. Peter Annas, Seed Manager at Lantmännen Lantbruk, and Björn Råsberg, Manager at the plant in Eslöv, will accept the prize.

Lantmännen started using ThermoSeed in Eslöv 18 months ago. Today, some 80-90 percent of spring seed is treated with the environmentally-friendly method – and there is great demand.

– The market has shown great interest, and we treat as large volumes as we can. So far this year, we have treated 30,000 tonnes in Eslöv, which amounts to about 160,000 hectares, says Peter Annas.
