2015 is often described as a critical year for the climate, and world leaders will meet three times to discuss climate and environment issues. The most crucial meeting is the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21) taking place between November 30 and December 11.
“Earth Statement is an important initiative to create positive changes for climate and environmental issues. For Lantmännen, sustainability is a key part of our strategy and business operations, and we notice an increasing will from consumers and customers to pay for products that take climate change into account, such as Lantmännen Agroetanol’s biofuels made from grains and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 95 percent,” says Lantmännen's President and CEO Per Olof Nyman.
Earth Statement summarizes some of the key messages to world leaders and is a call for strong actions. It contains eight elements of climate action in Paris, including a target of a carbon-free society by 2050, which requires a total phase-out of fossil fuels.
“Through a sustainable view on our business we have managed to create important changes both internally and externally. Our business contributes in the right direction and we have managed to reduce our carbon emissions by 40 percent in just five years and Kungsörnen now launches a flour produced with 20 percent lower climate impact,” says Lantmännen's Sustainability Director Claes Johansson.
Lantmännen is already supporting active climate policy and is for example an active part of corporate network Hagainitiativet and a partner of the EAT initiative.
