The Swedish-Finnish cooperation Nordic Oats has now received EUR 1.8 million from the EU's programme to market European oats in key Asian markets.
"We see great potential in processed oat products and the collaboration within Nordic Oats enables and accelerates our investment in Asia. Nordic oats are healthy, nutritious and also have a low climate impact. The initiative strengthens Nordic oats, from field to fork, and the export initiative is a logical and natural part of our long-term strategy," says Lars-Gunnar Edh, Head of Lantmännen's Energy Division.
The campaign will run until 2027 and under the theme "Enjoy – it's from Europe" will highlight the taste, usefulness, sustainability and exclusivity of Nordic oats – but also show the importance of environmentally responsible agriculture. Finland and Sweden will lead the campaign from the EU and the initiative is aimed at Japan, China and South Korea – three major markets for oat imports.

Ultimately, this decision will benefit our skilled farmers – the most important part of our oat value chain," says Anna Carlström, Executive Director of Nordic Oats.
In addition to this investment, Lantmännen is investing billions in several projects that contribute to increased export opportunities – including a new production facility for wheat protein in Norrköping, a production facility for pea protein in Lidköping and grain facilities in Västra Götaland, among other places.

About the collaboration
LRF and Ruokatieto are cooperating with five Nordic companies – Lantmännen, Berte Qvarn, Fazer, Helsinki Mills and Kinnusen Mylly/65 Oats – within the framework of the Nordic Oats network to increase exports and strengthen market presence.
About the campaign
The European Commission has allocated €1.8 million to co-finance 80% of the campaign, with the rest coming from the participating companies. Through this marketing programme, LRF and Ruokatieto confirm their cooperation to promote high-quality, sustainably produced European oats and bring Nordic excellence to the Asian markets.
The "EU OATS – Sustainable Oats from Europe" campaign, launched in January 2025, aims to raise awareness of Nordic oats among Asian consumers.
The campaign will focus on increasing awareness of Nordic oats by engaging more target groups and localizing marketing for maximum impact throughout Asia.
