Circular economy and resource use

Lantmännen is driving the development towards the agriculture of the future with more sustainable food and energy systems. Through research and new technology, agricultural inputs can be optimised and yields increased.

At Lantmännen, resources are used efficiently with circular business models where we both utilise and generate side flows. Lantmännen's work to enable increased yields with less effort is driven through research and development in collaboration with our Future Farms. At Framtidsgårdarna Viken, Svalöv and Bjertorp, we conduct research together with key stakeholders, such as universities and business partners, to contribute to economically and environmentally sustainable agriculture. The results can generate new business models and services for our customers.

Lantmännen has industrial recycling plants that dispose of food residues and waste to be used in the production of bioenergy. Residues from bioenergy production in turn generate inputs for feed and food production. By-streams such as bran from our mills are used directly in feed production. This leads to a reduced proportion of waste generated in our operations.

In total, the internal residual flows to our biorefinery amounted to approximately 56,500 tonnes in 2024. The total amount of waste amounted to 70,165 tonnes, of which 68% was recycled.
