Lantmännen is an active partner in the green transition of agriculture. By collaborating with farmers and other actors in the value chain, we contribute with sustainable solutions, innovation and relevant knowledge. Our focus is on developing the agriculture of the future through research in agricultural technology, robust and climate-resilient crops and resource-efficient methods

Climate change adaptation and the transition to a low-carbon economy require investment and cooperation between business and policy. Lantmännen has high ambitions in climate work and a structured process for identifying and assessing climate-related risks and opportunities. We follow the GHG Protocol to map and reduce emissions throughout the value chain, from our own operations (Scope 1), purchased energy (Scope 2) to indirect emissions from, for example, primary production, transport and use of products (Scope 3).

With the support of SMHI's climate scenarios, we analyse how climate change affects our facilities, and we have identified risks linked to extreme weather events. At the same time, we see business opportunities in solutions that reduce climate impact, such as grain with lower emissions. Through initiatives such as Future Agriculture and the Climate & Nature cultivation programme, as well as strategic partnerships, we contribute to more climate-smart agriculture and reduced emissions in line with international climate goals.

Goals and outcomes

  • In primary production, we will create the conditions for halving the climate impact every ten years and climate neutrality by 2050. Through Lantmännen's Climate & Nature cultivation programme, criteria are gradually being introduced for reduced climate impact in the grain value chain. The savings in Climate & Nature amounted to 11,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents in 2024, and 45% compared to 2015.
  • The goal for own production is to reduce climate impact by 50% by 2030, compared to the base year 2019. Climate emissions from own production decreased by 44% compared to 2019. The share of fossil-free for the entire Group decreased slightly to 84% in 2024.
  • For purchased transports, the climate impact from transport, relative turnover, will be halved by 2030 with 2019 as the base year. Emissions from purchased transports increased, with the share of bio-based fuels reduced from 44% in 2023 to 21% in 2024.
