Biodiversity

Lantmännen is dependent on biodiversity and ecosystem services to maintain productivity and long-term profitability. Climate change increases the risk of disease attacks on crops and changes in cultivation conditions.

Within Lantmännen's work towards the Agriculture of the Future, new technologies and working methods that can benefit biodiversity and ecosystems are tested and evaluated. Our work in research and development and our program for Future Agriculture contribute to increased knowledge in the area. We promote biodiversity as part of our commercial offering within our cultivation concept Climate & Nature, and drive measures within our livestock operations to increase the area of natural pasture in Sweden. We are a significant player in the organic range in Sweden and contribute to its development by testing and evaluating methods on our future farms with the aim of increasing yields.

Priority actions:

  • Through Lantmännen's program for the agriculture of the future, Climate & Nature, and Scan's sustainability supplement within the Farm Initiative , we support farms in strengthening biodiversity.

  • We offer Thermoseed, a seed without chemical treatment, which contributes to more sustainable agriculture.

  • We work to increase the area of natural pasture land in Sweden and offer certified natural pasture meat, an important step in counteracting overgrowth, one of the biggest threats to biodiversity in Sweden.

  • At our Future Farm Bjertorp , we run an organic demonstration farm to develop more efficient and sustainable cultivation methods.

  • We promote sustainability in food and feed by sourcing certified palm oil (for food), cocoa and soy.

  • In collaboration with BirdLife Sweden, we strengthen the biodiversity among birds in Sweden.
