Good carbohydrates

Carbohydrates can be sugar, starch or fibre. Eating slow carbohydrates with a high proportion of fibre can help you get a more stable blood sugar than eating very fast carbohydrates, such as sugar. It is therefore the quality of the carbohydrates you eat that affects how your energy level will be over time. Whole grains are an example of foods that are high in fiber and provide stable blood sugar levels.

What are good carbs?

Choose whole grains and high-fiber options like rye and oat products, as well as legumes. These carbohydrates are absorbed more slowly into the bloodstream, which contributes to a more stable blood sugar. A stable blood sugar level is good for your body. In the short term, you may feel calmer and less stressed. In the long term, you improve the prospects for a healthy life, and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Whole grains and fibre also contribute to beneficial vitamins and minerals.
