Bjertorp Farm of the Future

At Framtidsgården Bjertorp , Lantmännen conducts crop cultivation through seed production and plant cultivation trials. On the farm's 890 hectares, we test Future Agriculture in practice and run research projects that build our knowledge base to  increase yields and reduce the climate impact of agriculture.

 

Here we test in practice

At Lantmännen's Future Farm Bjertorp on Varaslätten, we test new seed varieties, new ways of growing, new technology and combine different measures on the farm to be able to develop innovative solutions for the agriculture of the future. On the farm, we strive to optimize cultivation systems and reduce climate impact using the latest technology for field driving, precision farming and with efforts such as flowering zones and bird fields to promote biodiversity.

Lantmännen has long conducted operations on the farm in Bjertorp on the Västgöta plain, in 2020 we took the initiative to Framtidsgården Bjertorp, which today includes test operations on 890 hectares. Here we work with seeds and plant cultivation experiments in the quest to optimize our cultivation systems and the properties of the soil. We work to reduce climate impact with the help of the latest technology for field driving and by increasing carbon sequestration and developing the humus content in the soil over time, for example by growing cover crops. 
We will measure the development over time, and create a basis for calculations of climate and environmental impact. At Bjertorp, we have begun the journey towards the Agriculture of the Future - in practice.

How we grow at Bjertorp in 2024

Framtidsgården at Bjertorp is a modern crop production farm that is used for propagation and seed production of current and future varieties. In addition to pure variety testing, some cultivation technology experiments are also carried out in plant protection and fertilization.

I like crop cultivation and working with new technology, cultivation systems and precision farming. Here at Bjertorp, we can test future cultivation strategies and products on a modern farm with access to new technology and machinery!
