Scan Sverige acquires Delsbo slakteri and Jämtlandsgården

Scan Sverige has signed an agreement to acquire Delsbo Slakteri AB and Jämtlandsgården Livsmedel AB. The acquisitions represent another step in Scan Sverige’s and Lantmännen’s efforts to strengthen Swedish agriculture and livestock production – this time with a particular focus on the strong potential and favourable conditions in northern Sweden.

"To meet the increased demand for Swedish meat, investments are required. Through the acquisitions of Delsbo and Jämtlandsgården, we are strengthening our production and slaughtering capacity in Norrland and creating better opportunities to grow together with our suppliers in a part of the country with particularly good conditions for increased Swedish meat production," says Lars Appelqvist, CEO of Scan Sverige.

Delsbo Slakteri AB and Jämtlandsgården Livsmedel AB are owned by Mattias Norell and Thomas Gill under the jointly owned company Delsbo Kött AB. Together, the businesses generate annual revenues of approximately SEK 190 million and employ around 40 people. Both slaughterhouses focus on the slaughter of beef and lamb.

"The acquisitions are an important step in further strengthening Lantmännen’s position in the food value chain and driving growth in Swedish food production. Increased and competitive food production across the country creates value for agriculture and strengthens Sweden’s long-term food security," says Magnus Kagevik, President and CEO of Lantmännen.

Scan Sverige already has a long-standing collaboration between Delsbo and Jämtlandsgården and the current owners will continue to work in the business together with the existing organization. Mattias Norell and Thomas Gill will also have an important role in the ongoing feasibility study that Scan Sverige is conducting regarding a potential establishment of a new slaughterhouse in northern Sweden.

"We have had a well-functioning and good collaboration with Scan Sverige for many years, and the fact that they are acquiring the business means increased capacity and potential for Swedish meat production. We now look forward to continuing to work together with them, employees and suppliers to ensure more Swedish meat from northern Sweden on the plate," says Mattias Norell and Thomas Gill, owners of Delsbo Kött AB.

The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant authorities, and the acquisition is expected to be completed during the first half of 2026.
