Internal audit examines that the organization's information is reliable and integrity, that laws and regulations are complied with, that assets are protected, that resources are used efficiently, and that established purposes and goals are achieved.

Internal audit helps an organization achieve its goals, by providing a systematic, structured way to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, governance and control, and management processes.

It is an independent, objective, assurance and advisory business, designed to add value and improve an organisation's operations.

This is the definition of what internal audit is according to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). This is also the definition that Lantmännen's internal audit works by.
