Lantmännen tops rankings in new sustainability study

Press releases, 2019

In 2018, Lantmännen was named one of Swedens most sustainable brands in the Sustainable Brand Index by both Swedish consumers and business customers. Lantmännen has now been ranked number one in Inter Business Initiative’s study, that measures and analyses a company’s ability to utilise sustainability to create holistic value.

Today the results of the Inter Business Index 2019 were published. A business index that ranks the 50 largest companies in Sweden from a sustainability perspective and in terms of how well they utilise this to drive holistic value creation throughout the company. Lantmännen is ranked as number one.

This award shows how far we have come in our efforts to link sustainability to our business, which is crucial in order for us to be able to create value. We’re glad that our work is also recognised and appreciated by our customers and consumers, which earlier studies have confirmed, says Claes Johansson, Head of Sustainable Development at Lantmännen.

The survey is based on research and an analysis methodology that has been published in two scientific journals in 2016 and 2017, including the Journal of Management and Sustainability. The company rankings are based on four perspectives:
Purpose a clear purpose linked to the business strategy.
Empathy ability to understand all stakeholders in the value chain.
System Approach ability to understand your own role in the system, context, opportunities and responsibilities in both local and global systems.
Transformation innovation, learning and creativity in a changing world.

Incorporating the above abilities into the company’s core strategy and business creates value in all relationships and a long-term sustainable company, which Lantmännen is now being recognised for in its top ranking.

We are very pleased by this acknowledgment and it means that we are on the right track, giving us positive energy to further develop our businesses with regards to all aspects of sustainable value creation, says Per Arfvidsson, Vice President at Lantmännen.

Claes Johansson received the award at Inter Business Initiative’s and Grant Thornthon’s seminar on Tuesday the 29thof January, which was also attended by the Swedish government's ambassador for Sustainable business, Jakob Kiefer.
