In order to support our production site at Moeskroen, we are looking for a pragmatic & hands-on R&D Process Technologist. Worthwhile to mention is that Moeskroen has one of the most unique positions within our Group, as it is the only bakery that is specialized in all French Pastry products.

This is what you will do

As an R&D Process Technologist, you will provide a practical implementation of process improvement within our French-Pastry product group. Based on your research, you will implement solutions and innovations within the current production processes. You will report to the R&D Process Manager, and work with the site management team on a daily basis.

Primary areas of responsibility:

  • Providing technical process support
    • Independently setting up, supervising, implementing and evaluating the necessary tests and measurements in both the trial bakery and the effective production environment.
    • Processing, interpreting and concluding these results in a correct and consistent manner.
    • Scaling up the lab/trial bakery tests to final practical formulations, and processing these in production.
    • In terms of raw materials ranging from flour, butter, optimisers, etc.
    • In terms of processes ranging from kneading procedures, implications from a new harvest, etc.
    • Optimising and analysing existing formulations and production processes, in consultation (& according to priority) with the respective Site Manager as the R&D Process Manager.
    • Introducing new opportunities that can significantly improve formulations or processes.
    • Providing technical/technological support and training for your colleagues in Production, Quality Assurance and other areas.
  • Implementation and follow-up of Research projects
    • Various research projects are initiated both internally within our cluster and externally.
    • For example, internal projects in consultation with suppliers regarding the validation of raw materials or processes, etc.
    • For example, external projects in collaboration with Lantmännen, Flanders Food, universities, etc.
    • The implementation and evaluation of these research results on our production lines.
  • High-quality reporting on the respective projects and their status, as well as meticulously carrying out the research planning and proactively communicating any changes about it.

This is what you need to succeed:

You have:

  • You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Technology or related disciplines.
    • Ideally, you have supplemented this with a bakery training and/or you can fall back on 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in an industrial bakery environment
    • Knowledge of bakery ingredients, processes and machines is a strong plus
    • A basic knowledge of HACCP, BRC, IFS is preferred
  • Fluent knowledge of Dutch, French and English

  • You show the necessary maturity and communicate in a positive manner with the various internal and external stakeholders. You have relational skills and are team-oriented, so that you are able to work smoothly and constructively together with your NPD colleagues, production, quality, etc., or within research groups.
  • You show the necessary flexibility and adaptability to enable you to switch smoothly between line tests, research projects, etc., and have a broad field of interests within R&D. In addition, you do not shy away from a challenge and proactively research new improvement initiatives within our organisation.
