Lantmännen's Andreas Gundberg appointed honorary doctor at the University of Borås
The appointment is a result of Andreas' contribution to developing the research area Resource Recycling into the successful research environment of today. Also, to highlight his contribution to the scaling up of and commercialization of the technology developed.
"It is very gratifying to be able to announce that we have appointed two honorary doctors this year, Fredrik Johansson, Business Developer at FOV Fabrics and Andreas Gundberg, Business Developer at Lantmännen Biorefineries. People who have meant and mean a lot to the university's development", says Mats Tinnsten, Head of University of Borås.
Bridge between research and industry
Andreas Gundberg has played a crucial role in the development of new fungus-based processes for better utilization of residual products in the industry as he has collaborated with the research environment Resource Recycling since the beginning of the 2010s. Andreas' contribution is emphasized as one of the contributing factors to the fact that fungal research has gone from involving a single doctoral student with a focus on ethanol production to the current situation, where fungal research is one of the most important specializations in Resource Recycling. Within the research group Biotechnology, new potential end products are being developed, such as feed, food, ethanol and fiber. Andreas has been instrumental in scaling up a mushroom-based process, which has shown the possibilities of using the processes on an industrial scale.
Andreas says that he was surprised by the news of the appointment.
It is a great honor to receive such an award and it is incredibly fun to pay attention to this type of collaboration between academia and business. Both basic research and applied development with business acumen are needed and I feel that I have been able to be a bridge between research and industry.
Mohammad Taherzadeh, Professor of Biotechnology at the University of Borås, highlights Andreas Gundberg's visions and knowledge for developing innovations.
- The university is probably among the leaders in the world in industrial fungal research. Andreas has played a significant role in getting us to where we are today and in developing the collaboration between Lantmännen and the University of Borås.
