Lantmännen – an economic association
Lantmännen is a member-owned economic association. The 44,000 members throughout Sweden are either direct members in Lantmännen or members of organisations linked to Lantmännen. There are also 25 local associations.
The concept of an economic association means that each member has one vote at the district meetings to which all members are given notice to attend every year. The activities of the association are regulated by the Articles of Association decided by the members, and also by the Association Act.
Lantmännen’s prime task is to supply members with seeds, fertiliser, plant protection and feed, as well as receiving, storing, refining and selling what the farmers cultivate. Sales of machinery for agriculture, forestry and contracting, including extensive retail operations, are other important aspects of the business activities. In addition, it is an overall supplier of agricultural buildings. Lantmännen also conducts research and development work in association with universities, colleges and companies.
